Overview
The project focused on enhancing surgical robotics and medical simulators at Sina Robotics, with specific goals of improving usability, functionallity, and meeting international standards. The scope included managing a team of Industrial Designers and Mechanical Engineers while working within medical device regulatory requirements.
Process
The development process involved systematic improvements to key features, including robotic arm range enhancement, surgical tool detection system design, and ergonomic optimization of the surgeon console. This was accomplished through iterative design processes, careful attention to medical device standards, and continuous collaboration between design and engineering teams.
Challenges
Major challenges included meeting strict medical device certifications (ISO-13485, IEC-80601) while maintaining innovation in design. Balancing cost efficiency with quality requirements for international markets presented significant hurdles. Managing tight production timelines while ensuring all safety and regulatory requirements were met required careful coordination.
Result
The project achieved significant successes, including securing essential medical device certifications, establishing Sina Robotics' first international deal for robotic telesurgery systems with Indonesia, and achieving substantial cost reductions (10% overall and 30% in fabrication) through optimized manufacturing methods. The team successfully improved key features while maintaining compliance with all necessary medical device standards.
